Kerzner Estate at Leeukoppie

Metropolis Design is one 6 Cape Town practices selected to participate in a new development initiated by Sol Kerzner, at the Kerzner Estate on Leeukoppie, Hout Bay. Our first offer as part of phase 01, is House 13. The architecture is derived from a reading of the mountainous landscape and mimics a cluster of granite boulders on the mountainside. The solidity of the architectural forms are in tension with the openness of the plan. The house explores ideas of immersion in nature, place making, sustainability and mimesis.

The contemporary architecture integrates House 13 into its surroundings slopes of Leeukoppie. Emphasis on a strong flow between the inside and outside; House 13 connects views from across the valley to the pine and gum tree forests. Various planted green courtyards spaces continue nature’s presence into the interior of each living area.
