Maydon Road, Three Anchor Bay, 2011
The stepped envelope of this small apartment block was determined by Cape Town planning regulations, which require the boundary setback to increase with the height of the building. In order to give this an architectural expression, the building was resolved into a primary solid mass floating on pilotis over an open parking area, surmounted by a series of light planar elements. The vertical stairwell anchors the otherwise horizontal composition.
The blocks contains 8 two-bedroom units and 1 three-bedroom unit, between 80-100 sqm each.
