14 Kreupelhout Street

The clients, a young couple, required a family house strongly connected to the views of Table Mountain and Table Bay all round, with an emphasis on outdoor living. The existing typical suburban house which we altered, was cut into to increase covered outdoor space. The basement garage level and general footprint were retained. The primary intervention was to express the additional bedroom floor as an assemblage of two hovering elements, like trees on the mountainside. The facebrick and fibre cement cladding are configured to correspond to the weathered sandstone cliffs of Table Mountain in the background. Like in many of our projects, the individuality of the interior and exterior expression of the house, is due to the collaborative involvement of the owners in the design process.
